Mechanics
The design and the construction of accelerator elements or components of particle physics experiments in particular for the LHC are often accompanied by the development of specific mechanical systems or tools that provide also solutions for many engineering problems outside high energy physics. For this domain, CERN makes available the following technologies:
Diaphragm System - a concept that allows precise positioning and holding of one or more elements in a main element.
Evacuable Flat Panel Solar Collector - an innovative device used to absorb and transfer solar energy into a collection fluid.
Hood Clamshell Tool for leak testing - to guarantee the sealing of a joint, a junction, pipes or tubes a very precise non-destructive technique with helium is used, because it allows detecting small leaks and measuring it.
Radio Frequency (RF) Waveguide Vacuum Valve - a device that enables low-loss RF power transmission in a waveguide across a gap, where a liftable instrument is positioned.
